Letter from the Community
The below is the letter a community member drafted himself. Feel free to use it, something of your own, or something as simple as "I support LD 495, and "it ought to pass." To get other wording ideas, as online testimony is submitted for this bill, you can see it here: legislature.maine.gov/ctl/ENR/02-24- after clicking on the bill number.
I support LD 495 “An Act to Require Rules Designed to Reduce Climate Change to Include Estimates of the Reduction in Adverse Climate Effects and of the Cost to Consumers.”
As I understand it, this bill requires the Department of Environmental Protection, when adopting rules designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, to issue an estimate of the level of adverse effects on the climate that will be prevented by the reduction in emissions and the costs associated with the reduction in emissions that will be borne by consumers.
This is common sense legislation. As taxpayers, we want to know the benefits and costs when unelected bureaucrats in the Department of Environmental Protection look at adopting rules designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In other words, transparency.
Again, I support LD 495 “An Act to Require Rules Designed to Reduce Climate Change to Include Estimates of the Reduction in Adverse Climate Effects and of the Cost to Consumers”, and it “ought to pass.”
