Background

The Maine Principals Association (MPA) has openly defied President Trump's Executive Order and the updated Title IX, allowing biological males to compete in girls' sports. We need your voice!

Complaint Statements

The below is a brief complaint statement provided by a community member. Feel free to use it or something of your own.

On Feb 12, 2025, the Maine Principals Association stated Maine will defy President Trump's executive order, as well as Title IX (as corrected by President Trump), and allow biological males to compete against biological females. Please help us to protect our girls and investigate Maine.

If you are looking to file a complaint on behalf of your daughter, you'll find a template shared by another community member below. Feel free to use it, adjust it as you see fit, or use something of your own.

Dear Office for Civil Rights,

I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding sex discrimination in school sports and facilities at [School Name] in Maine. My daughter, [Daughter's Name], has been negatively impacted by the state's policy regarding transgender students and its failure to adhere to federal law, specifically Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972.

The current policy in Maine allows biological males to participate in female sports teams. This policy creates an unfair and unsafe environment for female athletes like my daughter. Allowing biological males, who often possess inherent physical advantages in size, strength, and speed, to compete on girls' teams undermines the purpose of having separate sports teams based on sex. This situation deprives girls of equal opportunities to compete fairly and safely, and in some cases, puts them at increased risk of injury.

Furthermore, I am deeply concerned about the policy allowing biological males access to female restrooms and locker rooms. This policy creates a potentially unsafe and uncomfortable environment for female students. It compromises their privacy and could lead to situations that make them feel vulnerable and threatened.

I believe both of these policies violate Title IX, which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in any school or educational program that receives federal funding. The current situation in Maine is creating inequitable opportunities for female athletes, compromising their safety and privacy, and denying them equal access to educational resources.

I am requesting that the Office for Civil Rights investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate action to ensure that [School Name] and the State of Maine comply with federal law and protect the rights of female students. I am available to provide further information and documentation to support this complaint.

Thank you for your time and attention to this important issue.

Sincerely,
