Template
The below is the letter a community member drafted himself. Feel free to use it, something of your own, or something as simple as "I support LD 387, and "it ought to pass." To get other wording ideas, as online testimony is submitted for this bill, you can see it here: https://legislature.maine.gov/ctl/SLG/02-26-2025?panel=0&time=1&sortdir=0&sortby=2 after clicking on the bill number.
I support LD 387 “An Act to Prohibit the Governor from Relocating Illegal Immigrants to This State.”
As I understand it, this bill provides that the Governor may not relocate illegal immigrants into this state or take any other actions intended to authorize, approve or otherwise assist in the relocation or transportation of illegal immigrants into this state. As used in the bill, "illegal immigrant" means a person who is not lawfully present in the United States.
This is common sense legislation. This bill, once enacted into law, would bring Maine into compliance with federal law, 8 U.S. Code § 1324 - Bringing in and harboring certain aliens. Why would Maine want to continue to break federal law and risk federal funding for non-compliance? Recent ICE raids PROVE illegal aliens are here in Maine. Aren’t we taxed enough? It’s a slap in the face to us legal, Maine taxpayers to pay for and house illegal aliens.
Again, I support LD 387 “An Act to Prohibit the Governor from Relocating Illegal Immigrants to This State”, and it “ought to pass.”
