The below is a community member's testimony. Feel free to use it, something of your own, or something as simple as "I oppose LD 143, and it "ought not to pass." To get other wording ideas, as online testimony is submitted for this bill, you can see it here:https://legislature.maine.gov/ctl/HHS/03-10-2025?panel=0&time=0&sortdir=0&sortby=2 after clicking on the bill number.
I oppose LD 143 “An Act to Improve Women's Health and Economic Security by Funding Family Planning Services.”
By what I understand, this bill provides ongoing appropriations of $6,180,000 in each year of the biennium from the General Fund to be distributed by the Department of Health and Human Services to a single grantee to provide management and oversight of the delivery of family planning services. The bill establishes within the department the Fund to Maintain Access to Statewide Family Planning Services.
Another “feel good” bill title. Bottom line, I do not support providing $6.2 million tax dollars annually to fund abortion services here in Maine.
Again, I oppose LD 143 “An Act to Improve Women's Health and Economic Security by Funding Family Planning Services’, and it “ought not to pass.”
